Great to hear! Will this sector be part of the Puget Sound Data Ring or will it operate as its own network? -Nate

Re: Announcing the First HamWAN Sector Site in Oregon
We have raised sufficient funds to deploy our first HamWAN Sector site in the Portland Oregon area. We are considering two potential sites about half a mile apart from each other: the KOIN tower, and the KGW tower, both in the Portland West Hills. KOIN will allow us to mount our equipment at an elevation of 200 feet. We are still hoping that KGW will allow us to mount our equipment at a higher elevation, to obtain better coverage.

Currently, Oregon HamWAN is an assumed business name of the Cascade Amateur Radio Society. At yesterday's meeting, we approved a motion to create a separate 501(c)3 non-profit corporation for Oregon HamWAN. All updates on both of these initiatives will be posted here. Herb

Oregon HamWAN----Annual Meeting and Potluck Dinner Jan. 4, 2020 6-9pm
K7ICY/ Ken Tolliver
The Cascade Amateur Radio Society(CARS) / Oregon HamWAN will hold their Annual Meeting and Pot Luck Dinner on Saturday, January 4th, 2020 at 6-9pm at the LDS Church at 9901 SE Caruthers Street, Portland OR 97216 (just East of I-205 off Division Street).
Your whole family is invited. CARS will provide the Ham & Turkey. Please bring a Salad or Dessert to share. Rob Salsgiver, NR3O, will be our featured Speaker. Rob is a key member of the Puget Sound Data Ring (Seattle HamWAN) group. He will be coming down to Portland to speak on HamWAN and to answer questions. I think my first email exchange with him about HamWAN was in 2013. He has a wealth of knowledge and should be an engaging speaker. There will be a Silent Auction to do some fundraising; so be sure to bring your wallet/purse. There will also be some Door Prizes. No White Elephant Gift Exchange this year. We will be electing CARS officers for 2020 also. Come for a night of fun, food, and education. See you there, Ken Tolliver

I apologize for the delay in responding to your question. I was out of town for the past several days. The signal from the dish is roughly 6 degrees wide / high. So even a very slight change in direction horizontally or vertically can make a make or break your connection. You really need to be able to aim your antenna while the wireless scan is running in order to optimize the aiming. Also be aware that due to the fresnel effect, even power lines running through the path of the signal can interfere with reception. I would recommend testing your system at Council Crest or some other location with known good reception. I can assist you with this later this week, if you would like. Herb

Trying to get on the network, but scanning is not showing anything
contact@...
Hey all,
So I picked up one of the MikroTik systems at SeaPac this year, and have been getting it configured these last couple of days. I have it mounted on a mast in my backyard about 18ft up off the ground. My location is (45.569, -122.6170) and I have it pointed at roughly 45 degrees. There is no tilt applied to it currently, but I do have the bracket that can add a bit to it. I feel like I should have direct line-of-sight to Larch Mtn, but so far nothing is showing up when I run /interface wireless scan 0 I configured my MikroTik using the script found here: http://oregonhamwan.org/node.rsc I can take photos tomorrow of my installation. I don't think there are any obstructions in the way (I can see Washington easily from my roof). Does anyone have suggestions on what I may have configured incorrectly, or perhaps that I should change with my install? Thanks, Evan K7FOS
